i think of Castorama as the French Home Depot! Hope you’ve found it in Montpellier.

fyi we have a house in a village 25 minutes from Beziers and are frequent visitors to Castorama there and (alas) the Montpellier IKEA from which we are about to order and install an entire kitchen (gulp) I really enjoy your blog—you found the best city in France! Have you had oysters in Meze yet??

Your're right that Castorama is an equivalent to Home Depot, but not so big. Leroy Merlin is also a qualitative alternative and located in Montpelliers suburbs.

Brico Dépôt is kind of like the Dollar Store of hardware stores. Leroy Merlin is the higher-end one that the bourgeois bohemians (the "Bobo" as we call them in French) go to. We alternate between both to catch the good deals that come through sometimes in Brico dépôt. Enjoy settling into France! It's a huge adventure. I did it a very long time ago, in 1978. 🙂
