Carolyn has a new novel!

Morning, readers. Today I’m sending you something different than our normal newsletter about moving to France, and I hope you will forgive the change of pace for a day. As many of you know I am novelist. I have begun a new project and I wanted to share it with our readers here first. You guys are a savvy, sophisticated bunch, and I would love to hear your first impressions.

This graphic novel, This Memoir Will Be Written by Robots, is my imagined memoir from the year 2028. 

I am writing the prose but the images within the panels are created by a mixture of AI, photography, and photoshop. I will be continuing to create this graphic novel in real time each week, knowing that AI is progressing at such a rapid pace that soon I will not need photography or photoshop. Just AI. You will see the advancements in sophistication and intelligence here first hand. 

This project was first inspired by the news that AI can now write novels. Next, Hollywood writers went on strike to, among other things, "ban the use of AI for writing and rewriting any source material, as well as its use as a source material of its own." I was also heavily influenced by the upcoming release of the Apple Vision Pro and the 2022 AI art piece Unsupervised by Refik Anadol at MOMA. 

I look forward to this piece being a living conversation with other artists and creators about the nature of art in these bewildering times.
